David,

I have a laptop with a Compaq Armada E700 and a Canon IR printer. The
printer is fine, the IR port line up is easy with an audible sound
when communicating BUT, there is always a but, it is  s l o w. My
experience is start a page printing and go get a cup of coffee.

I would suggest a USB or direct cable connect of some kind - just for
the speed.
