Original msg (clipped) " My Chipset is 845G/GL/GV/GLV (and some show GLVE, as you did) "FAMILY" "-- Anna.

My original msg (clipped) " incidentally trigem imperial lists their mobos as G/GV/GL/GLVE series so perhaps
your reference to 8284G refers to the mobo and not the chipset."

i do not know whether it is a coincidence or designated on purpose but intel chipboards also have G, GV, GL, but i am not able to find GLV OR GLVE.

There definitely is a trigem imperial motherboard model GLVE and a picture of it is found in the web link kindly given by Frank Suszka. " Motherboard Description;
http://www.e4allinc.info/dir1/motherboards/socket478/imperial.htm. "

Anyway not to confuse matters further

(1)IMHO the right " driver installer " is the file called INFINST.EXE.

(2) Yes there are "Three" of such files in the intel "driver" site (items 4,5,&7) but they are only different updated versions as you will note from the corresponding dates and i would suggest you try the latest version which is 6.3.0.1007 dated 12/16/2004.

again IMHO win xp will reject it if it is not the correct driver and so at worst you may have to delete it from your system and perhaps wasted effort.
however i would be more assured if some of the other members in the list validate the point that "win xp will reject incorrect drivers".i use win 98 se and have found that whenever i get a new "hardware detected " msg and request for the driver/ software for it and i browse to the wrong driver and "ok" win 98 se rejects it and does not install. so i assume same will be the case with win xp but sorry honestly not sure. so pl wait till you get some response.

(3)perhaps another approach to the problem would be to contact Trigem for their motherboard info but as far as i can see they no longer seem to be making mobos but yes they do seem to make coplete pc systems

(4) i have been able to get Trigem usa tel. and fax no. given below

tel--1-800 766-4377

fax---1 (510)770-1721

NOTE- I am in INDIA and not sure about these numbers
The web site from which i got them has not been updated since 2000 and so i really do not know.

I respect your concern for security as i can see from your other posts with subject " passsword xp" so though i am giving below the web link i leave it to you to decide whether you should browse it or not.

The above site has a co-relation chart between BIOS serial no. and the corresponding motherboard manufacturer.

NOTE: Accessing the bios serial no. by their method did not work for me (win98 se)
i am also giving below the url of Trigem just in case.

(5) finally your post (clipped)

" I also ran another equipment ID utility that said:

            Motherboard

Intel NBGV - Northwood/Brookdale-G Validation Board

                        No version, no serial

Chipset Intel 845G/GL/GV Brookdale Host-Hub Interface Bridge
(A1-step)

            Under PCI Devices

Bus Master IDE Controller - Intel Trigem Computer Inc

            Under SM Bus Controller

                        Device ID: PCI\VEN_8086^/dev.etc.

                        Description: Intel® 8280 1DB/DBM SMBus Controller 24C3

Driver: [4D36E97D-E325-11CD-BFC1-08002BE10318]\0046--------- " from this it does appear that the SM Bus controller is installed and you have to install only the "INFINST.EXE" file.

does your "device manager" show this SM bus controller as installed under "system"?

good luck and keep us posted if you can---venkat viswanathan
