It could possibly be the display card overheating or on the way out. Try 
removing it and plugging the monitor into the motherboard VGA socket.

That will at least eliminate one simple possibility.

I've also seen a faulty sata cable cause similar intermittent symptoms. Try 
also disconnecting the non-active HD and any other non-essential hardware.

No error beeps?
