HI,

Usually a recovery disk checks for a code, for the company, to work
correctly, so it is possible a different gateway recovery disk may work, but
that is where the drivers may not be the same unless the exact same model as
the one you have.

If you install from a windows 98se disk than most likely you will need to
find drivers for the mainboard, video, audio, modem, and nic.

My recomendation would be to NOT buy win 98se and try and find Win 2000 pro
instead. Win 2000 pro would more than likely have all the drivers needed,
at lease much more than 98 would. You should have at least 128M in the
system.

Thanks and have a Great Day!

My son has his girlfriend's gateway 2000 computer to fix. The hard drive was
bad and he replaced it. Now the message on screen "operating system
missing". She can not find her recovery disk. Would any Gateway recovery cd
work? Would I need to buy a windows 98SE cd? Will I be missing drivers?
Thank you. Nancy Palmer
