Thanks to everyone that responded to my cry for help! I tried Paul's suggestion last night and deleted everything from device manager, re-booted and let Windows detect all the devices. It worked like a charm. I didn't have time to install my cards for the satellite or sound yet, but modem and scanner cards are in so far, and everything is running beautifully.
