I recently got an IBM 20G, 7200 IDE HD, OEM, supposedly factory
reconditioned, from an online store(it wasn't sealed, and there was no
factory recond. sticker on it). I first set it up as a slave to my 10G
quantum, to partition and format it (I runW98 on this machne). The bios
detected it properly and I Fdisked it per usual-FAT32, with one primary
partition for the entire drive. Drive info while in Fdisk, showed the drive
and the primary partition, but it was not assigned a letter for some reason.
When I rebooted, in order to format, the drive was not there- at the DOS
prompt, or in windows. Fdisk showed it as, "No partitions defined." I
then set up the drive as master, by itself, and used the W98 startup disk.
Repeating the same procedure, I had the same result as before. I also tried
scandisk, but it reported it could not scan this drive. This is the first
time I have ever run into this. Anyone have a clue?
Thanks, Edna Sloan
