Hello Listmembers;

Is there a definition site that explains what batch files, and all OS files
definitions that are related to Windows and DOS operation?

I have a problem with a Compaq Presario 2240 system. Brand new out of the
box hook it up and turn it on and after boot-up the following message
appears Batch Files Missing, and then the monitor goes black and the system
goes to sleep.

The tech support people at compaq said (after three telephone calls) the
hard drive was defective, and yes went through the restore CD the whole nine
yards, still Batch files missing.

So anyway after returning 2240 # 1 and picking up 2240 # 2 the same thing
happens Batch file missing. I check the system in Safe Mode and there was
only two line listed in the Autoexec.bat. Called Compaq for the fourth time
and was walked through typing the autoexec.bat and reboot,NOW the 2240 says
DOSKey missing Bad Command or File Name. After 65 minutes the tech finally
suggest I return the 2240 to the retailer and get a third one. NO thanks.

I am sharing this with the group because I A. would like to know what is the
Batch file?
2. I would like to learn as much as I can about definitions of these type of
error messages and 3. If in fact there is anyone else who has this Horrible
Compaq Experience?

I await the group feedback.

Sincerely,
Tomez De Silva "TONY"
