I'll second the Maxtor recommendation.  Got one, like it.  A co-worker had
one that died.  Old, but still under warranty.  They sent him a new, much
larger one at no charge, and he didn't have to go through the hassle of
returning the dead one.  My second reason may not be a factor to you, but
here in the middle of eastern North Carolina there aren't many places to but
computer gear OTC.  But we do have a Staples, and their pricing is very
attractive.
