I normally recommend AT LEAST once a month.  And if you are a heavy
user, maybe once every other week.  Usually once a month works well.

You should also go through and do a search for temp files (ending with
TMP) and delete them before doing your defrag.  This will help keep the
disk cleaned up as well.
