It is not necessary to partition a hard drive. Most people do it either
because they
want to run two different operating systems, or they want to organize things
that
way. (In the past, partitioning hard drives made more sense because of a
limit
on the number of files/folders in one partition.)

You partition a drive using FDISK; after partitioning the drive you format
it. Using
FDISK to partion a drive will lose the data on it in most cases.

"Partition Magic" is a program that many users like that will partition a
drive without
destroying data on the drive.

Subject: [PCBUILD] disk partitioning

I recently added a new hard drive to my computer. Both hard drives were
formatted but I failed to partition them. Is it necessary to partition them
and why? Can I partition them now without losing any data or applications?
One drive is empty. I am using WindowsXP Professional. Thank You. Larry.
