Hi. I'm trying to install win98 from cd onto this old system.
I want to have just 2 OS on the system: Win98 & Linux.

The harddrive is eide 8.4 GB on a 486sx33 with 32 MB RAM.
Drive c: is DOS 6.00 & 509 MB in size. The extended partition
has been formatted with Red Hat Linux 5.2 into about 8 partitions,
filling the rest of the drive.

I use System Commander to manage the 2 OS. Linux operates the
cd drive without problems. The cd drive is a Panasonic CR562B
hooked to a Soundblaster 16 Value card, CT2770.

I tried the Oak unidriver but it didn't identify the drive.

I think I have the right driver from Panasonic & have installed
it on a win98 boot diskette & have written the path in config.sys.

During bootup with the diskette, the cdrom is identified, but
I can't find what drive letter it is; all drives after c: are
shown as "invalid drive specification" from d: to z:.
(a: & b: are floppy drives).

Do I require some instruction line for autoexec.bat also?

Is there a way to access the cdrom drive, or do I have to reconfigure
the harddrive in a different way, e.g. move Linux to a separate
partition vs. being on extended c:? In other words, reformat the
drive & reinstall Linux afterwards?

Thanks again for continued solutions on the list to my hobbyist
problems.
