Google "Webshots" and you'll find people on both sides of this issue. 
Princeton has banned it 
http://www.princeton.edu/desc/software/bannedsoftware/webshots.htm
and I know from my experience that it can slow down some machines to an 
unacceptable degree. The fans of this program are very hard to convince.
