Subject: [PCBUILD] scanner/USB problem

After reading many reviews, I just purchased a Microtek 4800 scanner for my
HP 6630 Pavilion desktop PC. After spending about 6 hours installing,
testing and talking with tech support at Microtek and HP, it seems my USB
port is outdated for the scanner and HP is not updating bios software so I'm
out of luck. The scanner works until I exit the program but then I can't
reopen the program and get messages like: "Scanwiz5 is already running",
"can't find scanner...use SCSI probe". If I reboot, then I can get back
into the scanning program until I exit again.

My question is:
Does anyone know of a low-price scanner (around $100) that does not use the
USB interface that might be compatible with my 6630 HP or the best way to
locate this information? I know my computer is 2 years old, but it seems
like there must be a way to use a new scanner with this PC.

Thanks for any help on this.
