Rob,

        Without doing the full breakdown for you, I will first make a
recommendation and then tell you why.

        For performance and price, I would go with An AMD Athlon/T-Bird system.
They are the best "Bang for your buck". The Intel Systems of the same
equivalent (Pentium III-IV/) usually cost double the cost of the AMD, and
perform at the same rate or even SLIGHTLY lower.
