Charles, the HP 1100 was the model that superseded the HP LJ 6L, which is
the model I have. I've had the 6L for over 3 years now, and it is a very
reliable printer for home office use. I've never had a paper jam, and it
only failed once under warranty. HP replaced it overnight on its exchange
program under the warranty. I added a Simple memory card to it that I
bought online for $60, so it now has 9 Mb of memory. 600 dpi laser printing
is about as good as you'll ever need unless you're going to be doing a lot
of presentations. I don't think most people can tell the difference between
600 dpi and 1200 dpi. A good place to find out about both these printers
(although I haven't heard of the Laserjet 1200. It could be a real new
replacement for the 1100, I guess) would be at www.hp.com, and go to
community forums. There you can pick to look in on all the questions users
pose with HP about specific printers. I used to answer questions on the HP
895 inkjet there, and I know there is a specific one for the HP 1100. There
you'll be able to see what is wrong with these printers and what people like
about them. Good source of research before you buy. I still love my 6L,
and will keep it until it dies. Joel

Hello

I am going to buy an entry level laser printer for home office use. Hewlett
Packard has two models priced around $500, the HP 1100 and the HP 1200. The
HP 1200 has more memory, prints faster and is capable of higher DPI
resolutions.

Now I am wondering :
1. Why are they similarly priced?
2. Is there known issues with the HP 1200?
3. Is there any reason to buy the HP 1100 instead of the HP 1200?

Any advice would be appreciated.
