Thanks for the suggestions.  No matter what I tried, I kept running into
a brick wall.  Couldn't delete the controller completely.  Backup
registry no help.  Finally bit the bullet and tried a re-install of
Win98 without reformatting.  Surprise!!  It worked.  The only thing lost
in the install were the Video drivers and everything else was left
intact.  I hate to praise the devil, but Win 98 has been very stable for
me.  BTW, before I did the reinstall, I was able to gain access to the 2
CD's by installing the ASUS CD drivers.  They were able to read and
install, however no CD burning programs could find them.
