 Al,

Recently my ISP has been having problems of disconnecting members
shortly after connection. I have found when the ISP disconnects me, it
is a 'silent' disconnect and my modem is not registering the
disconnection - there is no audible click that one usually hears as the
modem disconnects. When this happens, the icon stays in the taskbar and
the timer keeps going and the only way to get rid of it is to reboot.

I started keeping a modem log. On these occasions of silent disconnect,
the log says "remote modem hung up". My modem has not agreed with this.
With a normal disconnection, the log shows that my modem hung up and
then both the ISP modem and my modem say OK and agree to disconnection.

I don't know if this sheds some light on your situation or not. Are you
disconnecting or is the ISP modem disconnecting you?

Diane Thomson
