Since a DVD burner can also do CD's- I'd go that way.  External burners are pricier but either USB 2.0 or firewire will get the job done.

YOu can also look into an external enclosure + internal burner & can save some money doing it that way.  Some good, inexpensive
places: acortech.com (code "pricewatch" gets free shipping on some items), surpluscomputers.com, directron.com.

NEC is a good brand.  As is Plextor (more $$).  Check prices & reviews at newegg.com.
You may as well get a +/- drive--- that way you don't have to worry about media compatability.  The price diff. on a sale is only $10-20.
