First, the mobo may not be able to support PC-133, though usually faster
memory can run slower, though not vice versa. The PC-133 will only run at
the speed of the BUS, so if you were hoping to make the machine faster, it
won't work. I'd suggest you return the memory and get 66 Mhz RAM, which is
cheaper anyway. Check the BIOS to see if the mobo can even support it.

Subject: [PCBUILD] Memory problems

A friend asked me to upgrade her computer which
had 64mb (2x32mb) SDRAM, which were 66mhz. I
replaced these with 3 sticks of 128mb but these
were 133mhz. On booting up it counted correctly
to 384mb but the next screen said "Memory check
failed. Press F1 to continue, Press Esc to enter
setup".
When I pressed F1, booting continued normally and
when I got into Windows, System showed 384mb Ram.
The computer runs normally. My friend is in the
habit of pressing the ON button, then going away
to do other things, and coming back when her
computer is in Windows. Now she has to hang
around to press F1.
Is there some setting that I can change to avoid
having to use F1?
I would be grateful for advice.

Cathy
