I took a 1GB IDE HD out of an old 386 today and popped it into a new
system I built - I configured the older drive as Primary IDE Slave. I
was gonna pull off all the data files. The older drive is loaded up w/
Win95 - the new system is running Win98. The BIOS on the new system
recognized the Slave drive fine, however, when I booted into Windows, I
couldn't see the drive. I backed out of Windows98 and ran fdisk. The
old drive is shown as having one non-Dos partition.

Could the non-Dos partition be a result of the drive having been
compressed? If so, should I clone it onto a larger drive and then
expand (uncompress) it (so I can get at the data files from another
drive)? Would I be able to uncompress a drive using Windows98 if the
drive was originally compressed using Window95 compression utility?

Or could it be that the old system formatted the drive geometry
differently than it is being detected in the new system? If so, I just
need to pop it back into the old system to see what geometry it is being
detected at and txfr this info to the BIOS of the new system for the
slave drive..... yes?

Uh oh. I just thought of something. That 1GB drive was in a 386.
386's can't see a drive of that capacity. Someone used EZ Drive or
something like that on this drive didn't they. That's why I'm seeing a
non-DOS partition.

Ok, now what do I do, ya'll....... Am I stuck w/ this? Going to have
to sneaker net off all the data?
