I have had the same problem and I really don't think it is a sticking Tab
key because it has to be pushed to activate.

Don't know what the problem is/was, but it has started working as a tab
again.

Happened enough times to suspect a software problem, but I don't have the
foggiest as to where to begin.

I just wait and it corrects itself.

Sorry if that isn't the answer you are looking for, but in my case it
fixes itself.

Sounds to me like the ALT key is stuck.
