Mick-

Start up in safe mode and use MSCONFIG to turn of the startup group items,
config.sys and autoexec.bat. Reboot and see if it comes up normally.

If it runs in safe mode, it almost has to be a driver issue. Might not hurt
to try deleting the KB from Device Manager in Safe Mode and letting Windows
re-detect it if the above doesn't work.
