Thanks Peter.  That's exactly what it is.  I was stymied
as to why the P/S 2 end wouldn't fit into the laptop P/S 2 port.
The pins don't line up.

Upon further investigation, I see I was attempting to plug
it into the S video hole.

Oy.  Where's my quill...
