Dennis,
Differential scsi uses a different termination scheme, than your "normal"
single ended scsi. As with se, differential has available wide and ultra
wide. Differential host adapters are not as common as se. Prices for
differential are usually higher than se as well. Stores carrying
differential at good prices are usually close outs or supplier overstocks.
It is very difficult to find cdroms for differential as well. When I looked
a two weeks ago I could not find a single one. I have used an adaptec 2944?
uw with good luck. I have also used a mylex/bus logic chip host adapter as
well. If you do want to buy a differential drive for price reasons, shop
for one bundled with a host adapter, I imagine converters are probably
expensive, but I am not sure. A local megastore here in San Diego had 2
9gig uw quantums and a uw differential host adapter for $519. Which was a
good deal, shop around see what you find and double check warranties on non
usual stock items, Good luck.
