Amanda,

Does the drive that you used to make the disks read them? The reading
problem with the CD-ROM drive (D:) is age. Most optical drives of recent
years are multiread drives. See the following links for more information:

OSTA Multiread Specifications:

How to Troubleshoot Issues with Reading CD, CD-R, CD-RW, and DVD Discs:

The type of Internet connection you use is not related to this problem.

Indicator light

I actually got the d drive to work. And yes, the indicator light does come
on. But one thing that puzzles me, sometimes when I put in a disk, one that
I have made, with pictures or whatever, it will not read it, and will run
and not stop until I shut the whole computer down. It won't even let me open
it. And my computer is really old, a compac deskpro with windows 98.
Recently had it wiped and reinstalled. It does okay, but with dial up it's
hard for me to tell whether or not any problem I have is the computer or the
dial up. Of course the d drive wouldn't be related to the internet...

Well I hope that your problem is "unburied" from the archives and a solution
is found! Surely someone out there can help you!

My case is tucked away, and I would love to have an indicator light icon on
the screen - as I used to have in the good old days, thanks to some
forgotten applet.

Does anyone know of any (I've asked in the past, but got no responses.)
