One of the cards that danced well at 83 was the Diamond Stealth card, that's
what I have in both systems I run at 83. One system has a WD drive, the other
had a Seagate which I now replaced with a Seagate Barracuda 7,200 RPM drive.

It sure sounds like video, the drive will prevent you from booting and it will
get corrupted rahter quickly. I had not noticed your mention of a SCSI card.
Even though is not a drive controller SCSI cards, especially Adaptec, don't like
to run above the rated bus speed. Remove the card and see what happens. Another
thing, can you up the CPU voltage a tad?

Jose
