Even if the hardware is thoroughly toasted, the data may be salvaged from
the hard drive.  If there was no massive current/magnetic field through
the hard drive, the data should still be on the platters.  Odds are good
that even if the card on the hard drive is damaged, if you can replace it
(temporarily) with a similar card from an identical drive, you can retrieve
the data.
