I'm not sure about the Visioneer PaperPort, but my Brother scanner (very
low end) will work if it is connected directly to the printer Parallel port
even without a computer attached. It has a switch on front which determines
if the data is to go to the computer or printer.  If they are both
connected to the same parallel port and you just want a copy, flip the
switch and the copy goes to the printer even if the computer is off. Maybe
the Visioneer also works the same.
