It is the acronym for Original Equipment Manufacturer, or the term
for the person or company that builds computers, such as
Micron, Dell, Compaq or even myself...  typically OEM components
are supplied without manuals, driver disks, nice retail boxes...  they
often arrive in small bubble wrap bags or just loose in a shipping box.
