"Missing Command Interpreter" typically means you will need to Sys.com
from a floppy to your C: drive and then possible inspect for a boot sector
virus.

Once your command interpreter is back on, you can copy himem.sys from the
floppy to the root (c:\) and the the Windows directory.   Once these are
back on your hard drive, you should be able to boot up; however, I suspect
that you will be seeing your NEXT set of errors at this point, whatever they
may be.

If you CAN get back into Windows98, use the "System File Checker"
application located in your Systems Tools application and have it look for
any and all missing or damaged Windows files.  This will prevent you having
to reload Windows.

Hi.....My question is acouple questions in one. My HIMEM.SYS was accidently
deleted. Now my PC will only go through the "systems" analysis  and stop
before it gets to Windows. I was wondering how I can uninstall Win98 from
this DOS screen and reinstall it. I have a Windows98 start up disc, when
I've tried to us it to either reinstall my HIMEM.SYS or Uninstall my Win98,
it goes to the menu that asks me what mode to go into. I've been selecting
"safe command prompts" I get a line telling me to "Type the name of the
Command Interpreter (e.g., C:\WINDOWS/COMMAND.COM)" C>. No matter what I
type here, it goes back to the same message.Any help would be greatly
appreciated. Thank you.
