I have a client with a USRobotics internal V.90 fax/modem (not the winmodem
thing) in her Windows 98 computer. As one would expect, during dialing and
connecting to her ISP, the modem makes dialing and connecting noises. This
apparently grates on her nerves enormously, and she would like the noise
silenced.

I did the normal thing, and went into Modem properties, and pulled the
speaker slider bar all the way to Off. This had no effect on the noise
(not even the volume of it).

Is there another method, perhaps with an supplemental modem string in the
Advanced Connection Settings, that will silence the modem during
connection?

Any help will be appreciated.
