A friend has a computer that will power up for few seconds and then quits. When he powers up he can hear the fans running and the drives start up and he gets a short flicker on the monitor and then everything shuts down. He can't even get to the BIOS. He's running XP and a Duron 1.something CPU. My first thoughts were power supply, faulty CPU, or faulty motherboard. I told him to start with the cheapest which is the power supply. Are there any other things worth looking at? This just started out of the blue and he hasn't made any changes to his set up in anyway prior to having problems.

John
