I have unplugged most of these without trouble while the computer was on.
The only one I would caution on would be with the printer.  I "think" it
depends on the printer (others can verify for me), but I have unplugged a
printer once while both were on and I ended up frying the board in the
printer.  This was a Tektronics Phaser 220i.  Other printers, specifically
ink-jets, may not be vulnerable to this sort of problem, or printer
manufacturers may be doing more to protect them these days.  This was about
5 years ago.  Oh, and I have "heard" that you can ruin a PS/2 style mouse by
unplugging it hot, but I have never had or seen it happen.  Hope this helps.
