bill...many thanks.  after several weeks of replacing everything and bonding
with media one "customer support", that small program did the trick.  i now
get cable modem speed.  i called media one today to brief them...i'm not
sure i "connected" with the tech support guy i talked with, but i suspect i
am not the only one calling in with this problem.

just a quick note here to the group to tell you bill's tip did the trick.
