Two things you may need to do. What you describe may require you to adjust
the controls on your monitor to make the display larger. There should be
adjustments to increase width and height, as well as centering of the
display.

The second area of adjustments would be by right clicking on your desktop
(background) and select properties. Then select the settings tab. There you
should have additional adjustments as to resolution, number of colors, and
(important) the refresh rate. If the refresh rate is set too high, some
monitors will not be able to display the full screen.
