I would recommend just reinstalling oe5. It is really simple, quick and it will retain your settings (messages and address book.) In add/remove program aplet in control panel, remove oe5. Then highlight ie5 and hit add/remove. Choose adda component and the specify oe5. The whole process takes a couple of minutes and usually fixes it. I hope that helps.

I press the DEFAULT button next to it to make OE5 as the DEFAULT messaging program and say APPLY>OK. However, when I open TOOLS>OPTIONS> again the satus does not change. Even under IE5 TOOLS>INTRNET OPTIONS >PROGRAM ,the E-MAIL PROGRAM is blank. As a result of this if I click on any e-mail address while browsing I get a message <CAN NOT PERFORM THIS OPERATION SINCE YOUR DEFAULT MAIL CLIENT IS NOT PROPERLY CONFIGURED REINSTALLING MAY HELP>
