Hello,

I just wanted to follow up on this problem that I posted earlier. Thanks to
Jun Qian and Dean Kukal for responding with some good suggestions to this
issue.

What seems to have worked was deleting my swap file and then removing the
duplicated devices while in safe mode. I no longer get the problem of the
mouse not being detected at boot up, and Windows 98 has not tried to install
any extra devices so far. I wanted to give it some time to make sure this
fix was not just a temporary one. I use Nortons to defrag and to "optimize"
my swap file, so the next time I go through a defrag and optimization, I'll
pay attention to whether this brings any of these problems back.

I never would have thought of deleting the swap file as a trouble shooting
step, except I saw a post on a different subject in which a compaq support
tech had suggested it to the person posting the message. Since it's easy to
do, I thought why not try it. I'm not sure I understand why this works, but
it seems to have done the trick.

John
