Thanks for the suggestions.  After speaking with my provider, they are going
to do the following:
1) swap my modem
and if that doesn't work
2) prepare a trouble report for the telephone company to come out and check
to see if my line is the problem.
They have been very good with the support and trying to get it working so I
don't fault them but it has been frustrating.  I'll let you know what if
anything solves my problem.  Thanks.  Dianne
