With Windows XP you can try the following:
 
1.   Left-Click on the START button. Select Control Panel.
2a.  If you get the Blue screen that says Pick a Category, select Performance and Maintenance, then System.
2b.  If you get the white background with lots of icons on it , select System.
3.    Left-Click on the Hardware tab.
4.    Left-Click the Device Manager button.
5.    Left-Click on the little plus (+) sign in front of the Modems entry on the list.
6.    Right-Click on the name of your modem and select Uninstall.
7.    Re-Boot your computer. Windows should find the modem and ask you to install the driver software.
