I don't know ther real reason for the /s switch (transfer system files I
know) but before you format C without the /s switch ,format a floppy with
the /s switch.  For thouse mome knowlegable  correct me if I'm wrong , but I
would use fdisk and remove partritions and then add them again.

Try running format C: withour the /s.  Once you have the drive formatted
then boot from your disk again and type sys C: .
That will probably be easier than trying to figure out where you dos memory
is going.
