Hi all,

A friend brought over a pentium which is an older government unit. It had a 3com etherlink card in it, which I assume had something to do with being networked.(I'm new at this if you couldn't tell <grin>). We have removed the 3com card and have installed a US Robotics 56k fax modem. The modem shows up in com5 - com1 is the mouse and com2 (25 pin) is now freed up (it was being used for an external 2400bps modem). The problem is that we cannot connect to the net. Dun has been configured correctly and the modem properties shows everything a-ok. When we attempt to connect we're getting the following message:

"The modem is being used by another dial up networking connection, or another program. Disconnect the other connection or close the program, and then try again."

I can't find anything else trying to connect. Can anyone help me? What other info would someone need in order to help me diagnose this problem? I am thinking of removing the modem and trying a different pci slot - any thoughts? Thanks a ton in advance.

Alan Thompson
