I recently acquired this scanner. I find that HP scanners - I have had at
least 3 other models over the years - work as advertised. It works
flawlessly and being able to be stored on it's side, like a book, means a
minimal foot print, which works for me. And yes, it is way cool. Thus far
the transparent surfaces have stood up well and have not scratched as I had
thought might be the case.

Set up and installation took no time and I was operational in about 10
minutes. As with most scanners, the bundled software is adequate but since
I do a lot of document scanning, I prefer Omnipage to HP's own OCR ware.

I am not going to worry about replacing the lamp, if, as and when it blows.
I have found that the technology moves so fast that when ti comes time to do
such a repair, the replacement product is almost invariably better, faster,
cheaper and , yes, "cooler".
