I didn't know what "BT Surftime" is; on looking it up on the web, it appears
to be software installed by your ISP, British Telecom?

When you say you have checked it out, what have you done so far? have you
checked for device conflicts? What software do you have set up for web
access from your ISP? What other software loads on startup...any fax
software? I am wondering if your modem is not trying to "answer" the phone
for you, which can cause problems. If this is the case you can add some
characters to your modem "advanced" features to stop this...but I am just
guessing at this point, pending more info.
