Are you seeing the Power On Self Test (POST) screen? Doesn't sound like it. It differs by BIOS, but it shows the drives, amount of memory, and issues a beep when it is done. If not, you have a bigger problem then a dead hard drive. You should be hearing beep codes during the POST that signal a bad CPU, bad memory, bad or not properly seated video card, among other things. If you are getting no POST at all then your mobo may be toast.
