To all of the Computer Builders out there:

I have what to me is a seemingly insurmountable problem. I have
(unfortunately) a Gateway 366c which I am attempting to add a 20G hard drive
to (Maxtor 7200 rpm HD). My problem is that there is no easy place in the
case to put it. I have a floppy, CD-rom and CD-RW. There seems to be no
room for an additional HD. Because of this, I originally thought that it
would be straightforward to just get what was on my oem HD and get it onto
the 20G and be happy with just one drive. In fact, I think Maxtor's
enclosed floppy expects this. I first used the flopp[y to create an "image"
of my 6G HD and operating system and I used only the new drive.

However, It seems that the imaging process did not really transfer
everything to the new drive in a working state. Many applications stopped
working. I can only assume it is because of the imaging process.

So, where I am now is with the original HD and the new HD sitting outside of
the case, but both working OK. Some solutions I've been thinking of are to
1) get a longer IDE ribbon/cable and try to get both drives inside...maybe
even using just one CD instead of 2. 2) Return the drive and get an
external USB and stop trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. 3) Try
to get the info from the original to the new HD correctly (is there a
way??) 4) Keep both drives outside of the case and hope that that is safe
and OK.

As you can see, I didn't mention giving up on Gateway or buying a new case,
etc. I'm not that brave.

Can some of you give me some great (as usual) advice on what to do?

Thanks so much,
Marshall
