I have installed an Atlas CD-ROM into a friends computer. Twice the
computer has fallen into compatibility mode and lost the CD-ROM, (requiring
re-installation of Windows.)

The error message is reported to mention a "child device conflict" then go
into compatibility mode, yellow flagging the IDE driver reliants, but not
the master IDE. Two questions, (with little to go on..)

1. Could the CD-ROM drivers loaded be conflicting with the BIOS IDE drivers,
and cause this problem?

2. Is there another frequent possibility why the above might happen?

John
