Agreed. "complete and total nonsense"
There was a time before buss-mastering (and better drivers)
when mixing things would slow down the buss to match the
slowest speed device.
That time has long since passed. Gone the way of the buggy wip.

I've heard that with PATA, you would want the HD first
(on the end) and the CD, etc. in the middle. There are reasons
for this. Mostly since CDs were always a kludge (after-thought)
to the specs, and "finding" a HD as Primary or Master was
always a good idea...
