Yes I tried the eject from menu but the only thing that worked was a
complete power down and restart while holding in the CD eject button. I had
to grab fast even at that because the plate cycled so fast. I have an email
in to DELL support so maybe an effective response will come through. Thanks
for the immediate help.

Have you tried opening 'My Computer' and right clicking the CD icon? You get
a
menu which includes the option to eject the CD. Other than that, the only
other
options have already been suggested.
