DOS 5+ EDIT will do fine as a simple word processor. If you want Win3.11,
check out the motherboard - there are probably SIMM sockets (or the older
SIPP sockets, which require rather awkward adaptors with a socket for a
SIMM and a single row of pins to fit the SIPP/or a SIPP which has the pins
soldered onto a "SIMM"). In any case, you can probably find 2 to 4 Meg
(no more) of cheap old RAM which can be made to fit physically. The trick
will be to get into the BIOS to get it to "recognize" the RAM.

If you can get into SETUP by pressing <DEL>, or <CTRL>-<ALT>-<ESC>, or some
other combination; or have an original SETUP program on disk (or
downloaded from COMPAQ), you can check to see what types of RAM it will
accept - such as 4 of 1 Meg SIMMS. Just make sure that you don't save
any changes until you are ready! If you can identify the motherboard
(FCCID=?), maybe someone can help...
