Dear All,
Thanks to David Olds and David Gillett for the previous advice.
I have decided not to overclock my Cyrix chip.
SO ..... what is the best (fastest for games) chip I can fit to my
P5V580-B motherboard. Also I will need to know the jumper settings for
whatever CPU you recommend because I don't have a motherboard manual.

Thanks again,

Laurie

If you insist in trying to overclock a Cyrix CPU, you must
tackle the issue
of heat....A better fan and probably a case fan would be needed.
You could
check www.tomshardware.com for any reports of success, but they
do not
encourage Cyrix CPUs to be overclocked....My advice is to get a
surplus AMD
K-6 or any INTEL and overclock away.....Some PR200's were of
very low
quality while some were quite good, this disparity in quality
allows a very
low success rate of overclocking in market as a whole...

        Good Luck,
        David Olds

        Hello All,

I have also been trying to overclock a Cyrix PR200 which my
motherboard
        (a P5V580-B with 580VPX chipset) will let me use 2 x 75mhz or 2½
x
66mhz. The problem comes when I try to run it at 2½ x 75mhz, The
system
reports it as a Cyrix PR233 and boots OK and works in DOS mode
but
Windows (95) won't load. It just freezes at the splash screen. I
have
tried re-installing W95 but same problem persists.
By the way, I can't find a manual for my motherboard, which
makes
changing jumper setting a real pain

        Any suggestions ?

you cannot overclock Cyrix CPUS with any success...Also, they do
not
        allow
        .5 settings...they are either 2x or 3x....
